Aceh People's Party Congress Participants Suffer from Food Poisoning

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: At least 80 participants of the Aceh People's Party congress had to be admitted to Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh Hospital due to suspected food poisoning during dinner in the congress arena, Thursday (1/3).

According to Murniati, Head of the hospital's Emergency Room, they were admitted to hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Out of the around 80 people who were brought to the hospital, “Twenty-three were admitted,” she said.

The patients had the same symptoms, headache, queasy feeling, vomiting and diarrhea.

However, so far the hospital has not yet been able to make certain whether or not it was food poisoning because the food samples were being examined by the Drug and Food Control Agency (BPOM) Banda Aceh.

According to Thamren Ananda, Head of the Aceh People's Party preparation committee, the congress participants started to show symptoms of food poisoning on Thursday morning when they returned to their accommodation.

“We have reported this to the police,” he said.
