Earthquake in North Sumatra

TEMPO Interactive, Medan: An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale shook North Sumatra, Tuesday (16/5) at 10.28pm WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said that the earthquake epicenter was in the sea near Dalam Bay, South Nias, 110 kilometers Southwest of Dalam Bay.
According to Suhendri Purba from the North Sumatra BMG, the earthquake was strong in North Sumatran areas such as Sibolga and Mandailing Natal but was weak in the Padang Sidempuan region.
Suhendri said that up to now, there had already been a total of four minor earthquakes with the earlier three measuring 5.8, 5.4, and 5.2 on the Richter scale.
However, “there have been no reports regarding any damage or victims because of these earthquakes.”
