US CPO Rejection Won’t Impede Production

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:All Indonesian Regency Government Association chairman Isran Noor, says the US’ rejection of Indonesia’s crude palm oil (CPO) would not impede production. “Very little of Indonesia’s crude oil enters the US,” he said, as quoted by Antara news yesterday.
He said that Indonesia’s CPO export market was dominated by China, Korea, India, Japan and other Asian and ASEAN countries. Last year, national CPO production totaled 23.5 million tons, 16.5 millions of tons of which was exported. From that amount, only 62,000 tons was exported to the US.
Previously, the Indonesian ambassador to the US, Dino Patti Djalal, said Indonesian CPO was rejected due to the data conveyed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in regard to renewable fuel standards. “The EPA took the old data, but it wasn’t accurate,” he said.
The latest scientific data will be sent to the EPA to show that Indonesian bio-fuel can meet greenhouse emission reduction standards.
