TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto said the establishment of the Sunda Strait Bridge Management Board would be accelerated. The board, which includes the Lampung and Banten governments as well as private companies, is expected to sign a contract and draft the plans and design soon.
“I think the board will be finished in six months,” he said yesterday. The government is currently drafting a presidential regulation on a management board that will oversee the Rp100-trillion mega-project.
With the collapse of the Kutai Kartanegara Bridge, Djoko said the Sunda Strait Bridge must be constructed more carefully. “That’s a good lesson,” he said.
Previously, Djoko estimated the bridge would cost Rp100 trillion. The initial plan showed that there would be a railway, bus track, cables and water channels on the bridge. The government has targeted the groundbreaking to start by 2014. Investors and contractors are also expected be appointed in that year.
