TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Government do not want to be dictated by donor agencies.
The State Minister for National Development Planning Armida Alisjahbana said he wants a donor country or agency to follow the regulations determined by the Indonesian government if they want to provide grants or foreign loans.
“They have to adjust to Indonesia’s priorities,” said Armida in Jakarta yesterday.
Armida also said he hoped that the term “donor” will no longer be used.
The more appropriate term is “development partner” because the government emphasizes equal partnership and tighter cooperation.
The government’s wishes were included in the Jakarta Commitment, signed by the Indonesian government on 12 January 2009 and adopted by 26 countries, among then Japan, Australia, the Netherlands, the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.
