Private Businessmen Indicted in State Electricity Company Graft Case

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Three executives of two private companies working on governmnet projects were indicted with corruption and face maximum sentence of life imprisonment by the corruotion court in Jakarta on Monda (25/1).
Saleh Abdul Malik, former commissioner of PT Altelindo Karyamandiri, Achmad Fathony Zakaria former operational director of PT Altelindo Karyamandiri, and Arthur Pelupessy Chief Director of PT Arti Duta Aneka Usaha were indicted with two counts of corruption.
“The defendants have illegally benefit themselves or other paties or corporation, which could incur government losses up to Rp175 billion,” prosecutor Chatarina Muliana told the hearing.
They violated two articles on making personal benefit and abuse of power and therefore facing lifetime imprisonment.
The case have brought former general manager of the State Electricity Company branch in East Java Hariadi Sadono to trial. The regional office of held a project to develop an information technology-based customer management system in 2004.
Altelindo and State Electricity company was accused of setting the value of the project without proper feasibility studies, and Altelindo was accused of passing down jobs in the project to PT Arti Duta, which is prohibited by the State Electricity Company.
Lawyer for one of the defendant from PT Altelindo, Sholeh Amin said to present their objection in the next hearing.
