TEMPO Interactive, Semarang:Yudhi Sancoyo, the Blora Regent, has issued a decree that regulates the compulsory use of the Javanese language for residents.
“They must use it once a week, every Thursday,” said Yudhi yesterday.
The decree, effective starting January 2010, is viewed as an effort to preserve the Javanese language both at highest speech level of kromo inggil and the rough Javanese ngoko.
Civil servants, officials in state-owned enterprises, teachers and students, are required to follow the above decree. “Students should use kromo inggil Javanese (when talking) to teachers, “he said.
