House Form Inquiry Team on Bank Century

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democratic Party managed to secure the largest number seat in the special committee for the inquiry of the Bank Century case as the house of support the formation of the 30-membered committee.

Parliament speaker Marzuki Alie of the Democratic Party said on Tuesday the house has decided to assigned a proportional number of members from each faction into the team.

The Democratic Party faction will place eight of its members in the committee (which it has yet to prepare), Golkar Party faction wil place six, Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle five, Prosperous Justice Party three, National Mandate Party two, United Development Party two, National Awakening Party two, Great Indonesia Movement Party one, and People's Conscious Party one.

Not all of the parties have prepared their members to be in the committe, smaller parties like the Prosperous Justice Party, National Awakening party, and Great Indonesia Movement, while head of the Democratic Party faction Anas Urbaningrums said “(we) are still choosing the right candidates.”

The bail out case and the conspiracy against the Corruoption Eradication Commission have both delivered a serious challenge against Yudhoyono's administration which has sparked calls for resignation of the president in less than three months into his second presidency. The party was the last to support the petition for the inquiry after all the other eight factions filed their endorsement.
