BNI to Resume Middle East Investment Despite Dubai World Crisis
Monday, 30 November, 2009 | 20:34 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Bank Negara Indonesia said financial trouble at Dubai World will not affect its plan to invest Rp1 trillion in Dubai in a bid to expand the independence of its sharia unit next year.

Chief Director Gatot Suwondo said on Monday the plan to separate its sharia business to become independent unit will resume despite the financial situation faced by Dubai's investment arms. “We have made commitment with the Islamic Corporation Development Bank, the subsidiary of theJeddah-based Islamic Development Bank.”

The separation according to BNI will be completed before the end of this year and will start operating in 2010 to serve the small and medium enterprises and provide conventional credits. Gatot said the ICBD still interested in BNI' sharia business and pledged US$500 for the BNI business.
