President Officiates Optic Fiber Network between Mataram and Kupang Today

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to officiate the construction of an optic fiber network between Mataram and Kupang today (30/11).
According to www.depkominfo.go.id, the website of government's information department, the construction of Palapa Ring for south part of Eastern Indonesia is totally funded by PT Telkom.
The construction will include inland and submarine cables and it is expected to be completed by the end of November 2010.
The ceremony will take place at the state palace in Jakarta. Through a video conference, President will communicate with Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring and West Nusa Tenggara Governor, Muhammad Zainul Madjdi.
A number of ministers, leaders of Commission 1 of the House of Representatives (DPR), commissioners and board of directors of PT Telkom and PT Telkomsel, as well as members of Palapa Ring consortium (PT Telkom, PT Indosat, and PT Bakrie Telcom), will attend the ceremony.
At the same time, the President will also make official the Universal Service Obligation (USO) program.
This program is part of government's commitment to narrow gap of information access between communities.
It is expected to apply the program to 25,000 villages throughout Indonesia soon.
