Government to Reinstall Suspended Anti-graft Deputies
Friday, 27 November, 2009 | 12:41 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reportedly will issue a decree to reinstall two suspended anti-graft deputies Chandra Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto after the recent legal challenges set to frame them by a businessman whose company was involved in a corruption case.
Presidential Spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said on Friday the decision will be announced in the near future.
Suspension on the two deputies imposed by President Yudhoyono about a week after police charged them with extortion and abuse of power on September 15th.
On November 3rd the evidence that indicate the charge was orchestrated by law enforcement officials under the command of a businessman, Anggodo Widjojo was published by the Constitution Court.
The publication forced President Yudhoyono to suggest cessation on the legal proceedings against the two deputies but not after he assigned a team to verify the evidence presented at the Constitution Court by the Corruption Eradication Commission.
The mastermind of the plot Anggodo Widjojo, whose brother has been charged with corruption has not been charge for any crime to date, while his brother, Anggoro Widjojo is also still at large.
