Friday, 20 November, 2009 | 11:51 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Head of the National Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Marzan Aziz Iskandar, has said that the agency will build a geothermal power plant in Cibuni, West Java.

“We have found the source,” Marzan told Tempo, on Thursday (19/11).

Marzan explained that the power plant would produce 2.5 megawatts of electricity that could supply power to 2,500 houses.

The project will cost Rp30 billion and this will come from the state budget.

Marzan said that there were no investors who are interested in a geothermal power plant project.

Marzan said that Indonesia has great geothermal potential as many places in Indonesia have volcanoes.

Forty percent of the world's geothermal energy is found in Indonesia.
