Earthquake Hits Southern Part of Java

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter Scale has hit the southern part of the Island of Java Island.
However, it did not have the potential to create tsunami waves.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at 9:17am (Indonesian western time) at a latitude of 9.15 degrees South and a longitude of 107.58 degrees East, and at a depth of 66 kilometers.
According to a BMKG officer in Bandung, no reports have yet been received from the general public about the earthquake.
“We did not feel the earthquake here in Lembang,” he told Tempo Interactive.
“We do not know yet whether there will be a following earthquake or not, because it is located in the middle of the sea,” he said.
