Earthquake Hits Papua Today

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Jayapura, Papua, this afternoon (5/11).

According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake did not have the potential to create tsunami waves.

The earthquake happened at 11:17:18 Indonesian Western Time or around 13:17 local time, with its epicenter 198 kilometers to the southwest of Jayapura and 58 kilometers deep.
