Muladi Wishes Qanun Jinayat to be Canceled

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Governor of the National Defense Agency, Muladi, is asking the Home Affairs Minister to cancel the ratification of the Islamic criminal code known as Qanun Jinayat, in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.

“The minister should act first,” said Muladi yesterday (29/10).

He said the Qanun was not in line with Indonesian law as this does not recognize physical punishment.

Muladi also said he considered those arranging the Qanun as unprofessional, improper, and not objective.

“Do not lie to yourself. It is dangerous for this country,” he said.
