TEMPO Interactive, Yogyakarta:The number of HIV patients in Yogyakarta has significantly increased during the past three months as people become more aware of having their blood tested at hospitals.
The number has gone up from 700 to 832 cases.
“Such awareness is needed to know about HIV/AIDS cases,” said Yogyakarta AIDS Management Commission secretary, Riswanto, said at the Santika Hotel yesterday (w22/10)
.On average, the number of cases has increased by 10 percent, he added.
Yogyakarta Transvestites Family Foundation organizer, Yogyakarta, Sisi Renita, said that in order to deal with HIV/AIDS infection in the province, they are actively organizing campaigns to use condoms.
Transvestites are also provided with consultations to have their blood checked at referred hospitals.
“We give access to them to carry out a test at places we refer them to,” Sisi said, adding that there were 228 transvestites in Yogyakarta.
“I don’t know the exact number of them who are infected with HIV AIDS.”
