Three Killed by Quake In Garut

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Three residents in Garut Regency, West Java were killed and a further 20 was injured by the southern Java sea quake on Wednesday as houses in the Pameungpeuk Subdistrict tumbled.
Head of Pameungpeuk Subdistrict said two of the victims were residents from Pamalayan Village but no information on the third victim.
The victims sustained head injuries from falling roofs and objects as houses were shaken by the quake. All of the victims' body were taken to the community health center of Pameungpeuk Subdistrict.
About 20 residents suffered minor to severe injuries, but local health official said residents continue to come to the health center to seek medical help. Head of the Garut Health Offices Henry Budiman said “it is predicted that many of the injured residents were still left without medical assistance.” He said the regional authority is deploying four additional doctors to handle the injured and operated three additional ambulances.
Residents said the tremor was felt in the regency for about two minutes which was followed by aftershock of about 10 seconds had forced residents and workers rushed to leave their houses or offices.
Earlier a resident of Sukabumi, West Java, was killed by a sliding stone at Bodas Hill.
