Noor Din's Claim on Blog about the Bombings Being His Doubted

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The blog of http://mediaislam-bushro.blogspot.com shows a statement claiming that Noor Din M Top is part of the Indonesian Al-Qaidah and responsible for the bombings at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels.

However, a group of people doubts this statement, including a former regional head of Jamaah Islamiyah, Nasir Abbas.

“The writing on the blog is different to his letters that were confiscated before,” said Nasir last night (29/7).

The claim was uploaded last time on July 26 at 10.02pm Indonesian western time zone.

The same posting was published one day after the bombing on July 18 at http://bushro2.bblogspot.com/.

Nasir explained why he doubted the website. The first is because of how the blog writes the name of Noor Din as 'Nur Din'.

While on previous letters, the name was always written as 'Noordin' without space.

Furthermore, many words on the blog were spelled incorrectly.

“Noor Din is clever. The blog spells Ritz-Carlton as 'Rizt Calrton'. This is not right. He would not be wrong about spelling words in English,” said Nasir.

Roy Suryo, the telematical expert explained that the blog can be tracked through its ISP address which can be checked at Google, the operator of Blogspot.com.

This would state the country and internet service provider where the writer uploads his blog.

However, if the writer is not an amateur, he could use an anonymous ISP. For example, he could use a Russian ISP while he was actually in Indonesia.

“But this does not mean it cannot be tracked. However, the site is fake, it only creates more problems,” he said.

“We will not be fooled by fake information. We will study it,” said deputy of the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian Police Headquarters, Brig. Gen. Soelistyo Ishak, yesterday (29/7).
