Government to Cancel Licenses of Agencies that Keep Sending Workers to Malaysia
Friday, 03 July, 2009 | 13:28 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Manpower and Transmigration Department plans to cancel licenses of private agencies that keep sending workers to Malaysia.

“We will remove the licenses,” said the Manpower and Transmigration Minister, Erman Suparno, at his office, on Wednesday (2/7).

But if the workers are sent by an illegal agency, then the Indonesian government will leave the power of arrest to the country receiving the workers.

The department has sent notifications to regions to stop sending workers for a while.

Erman has met with the Malaysian Home Affairs Minister and the Human Resources Minister.

“I asked for the meeting to be held before the presidential election,” he said.

It is expected that by mid July, Indonesia and Malaysia will be reviewing the agreement over sending informal workers. Meanwhile, the department has decided to stop sending informal workers since June 25.
