TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Around 150 members of Migrant Care, a non-governmental organization advocating for the rights of migrant workers will demonstrate today at 10.00 AM at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta. According to Migrant Care executive-director, Anis Hidayah, the demonstration is to protest Malaysia’s negative actions against Indonesia lately.
“From the death of seven Indonesian migrant workers because of a supermarket collapse, the Ambalat case, and alleged violence against Manohara (Odelia Pinot)," Anis said.
These issues, Anis said, have become an obstacle to good relations between the two countries. “With these issues, how can we still call Malaysia our family?” Anis asked.
The activists also urged the government to lodge a protest against the Malaysia over the Ambalat conflict and violence against migrant workers.
Jakarta Police Traffic Management Center said the demonstration will also take place at the Hotel Indonesia traffic roundabout at around 15.00 PM. The police are calling on the public to avoid that location during that time to prevent traffic congestion.
