Final Election Result Announced

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Central Election Commission announced the final counting result of the parliamentary election on Saturday (9/5) night, with Democratic Party as the winner, and 29 smaller parties short were short of the minimum 2.5 percent parliamentary threshold.
The Democratic Party won 21.703.137 of the legitimate 104.099.785 votes. Golkar Party came second with 15.037.757 votes (14,45 percent) followed by Indonesia Democratic Party for Struggle with 14.600.091 votes (14,03 percent).
The Democratic Party seized 148 seats of the 560 seats in the parliament surging about 159.6 percent from its total seat in the current legislature. Golkar Party secured the second largest seat with 108 seats (19,29 percent) or losing 20 seats in this election while Indonesia Democratic Party for Struggle preserved 93 out of 109 seats it controls in the current lower house.
There are 38 political parties contested in the 2009 election, plus six local parties in Aceh Province which contested only in provincial scope.
The election law have regulated that parties with less than 2.5 percent of the total votes will not eligible to send its representative to the parliament (complete result for the nine eligible parties listed).
The result came at the end of the provisional 30-day period for the election office to finish the counting or face criminal charge. The commission had been under fire for its poor preparations on voter lists which left many eligible voters out of the election booth in the 9 April election and at the second week after the election, result-rigging allegation was launched by the Indonesia Democratic Party for Struggle.
On April 22nd the party’s campaign team claimed to have copied the original data of the election results which showed that the results published by the commission has been manipulated.
According to the PDI-P team findings, the Democratic Party actually secured 12.869.164 votes (16,49 percent), Golkar Party gathered 11.479.497 votes (14,71 percent), and Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle collected 8.732.522 votes (11,19 percent).
Also there were alterations in the next seven positions according to the PDI-P team. Prosperous Justice Party stood at number four with 7,20 percent of the votes as of April 21st, National Mandate Party with 6,74 percent, Great Indonesia Movement 6,53 percent, United Development Party 4,39 percent, People's Conscious Party 4,35 persen, National Awakening Party 2,96 percent and PKPB 2,72 percent.
