Monday, 19 January, 2009 | 17:36 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The government is looking into Libya to expand markets for Indonesian products. "Libya has opened itself and improved its relations with the US. The country has become a potential market for Indonesia," National Export Development Agency chief, Bachrul Chairi told Tempo yesterday.
Bachrul said that Libya has offered Indonesia an infrastructure project worth US$ 500 billion for the next five years. "Construction, telecommunications, and transportation companies have a chance of getting contracts there," he said. Moreover, Libya needs manpower to operate the infrastructure projects.
According to Bachrul, Indonesian household products have a good chance of being exported to Libya also. "They are now importing almost 100 percent of their household needs," he said. An Indonesian trade mission is scheduled to visit Libya next month.
