Indonesian Military to Purchase 20 Tanks from Russia

TEMPO Interactive, Surabaya: The Indonesian Navy will buy 20 BMP-3F tanks made in Russia during 2009.
According to Brig.Gen. Baharuddin from the Marine Corps, speaking yesterday (18/7) in Surabaya, these tank will be supplied complete with weapons.
“The MoU is signed. It is expected that the tanks will be in Indonesia by the middle of next year,” he said.
The tank can enter the sea without any special preparation and has a shooting distance of 20 kilometers.
These tanks will be used by the Marine Cavalry Regiment.
Let.Col. Wardaya Surya Wijaya, a member of the tank procurement team, said he estimated the 20 tanks would cost US$50 million or Rp500 billion.
“One tank costs Rp23 billion,” said Wardaya.
