DPR Chairman: Parliament's Authority Cannot Be Trimmed
Friday, 07 November, 2008 | 14:43 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Agung Laksono, said the parliament's authority cannot be cut down because its functions and duties are determined by the constitution. "It is regulated in the 1945 Constitution," said Agung, at the DPR building yesterday.
Agung said the constitution grants the DPR jurisdiction over budgeting, oversight and legislation. The three functions cannot be reduced unless the 1945 Constitution is amended.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla had stated that the powers of the DPR parliament need to be reviewed because they tended to lead to corruption.
