TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government has been asked to immediately publish the pornography state decree and publicize this throughout Indonesia including in Papua and Bali.
“So there will be no negative understanding,” said Agung Laksono, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), in Jakarta yesterday (3/11)..
Agung welcomed representatives from West Papua who reject the pornography decree, on Monday (03/11).
Chairman of West Papua City Council Jimmy Demianus Ijie said the decree could create potential problems with Papuan culture.
He said that the approval of the decree was considered hostile and this had been done with insufficient publication.
“There will be large demonstrations in Papua tomorrow,” said Jimmy.
Jimmy came to the House with 40 leaders of church organizations in West Papua.
They urged government to cancel the bill or West Papua will separate itself from Indonesia.
“We will wait for one month,” said Jimmy.
Filep Mayor, spokesperson for the Papuan group, said that the pornography decree threatens the traditions of 256 ethnic groups in Papua.
He accused the decree of being passed only in the interests of certain religions.
“We reject any regulations with Syariah content,” said Filep.
Rejection also comes from people in Bali.
People from different background in Bali who are members of the Balinese People’s Component, are preparing a material testing of the degree to be submitted to the Supreme Court.
“It will be done in two weeks,” said the Component’s coordinator I Gusti Ngurah Harta.
