Artists who qualify to receive such assistance are song writers, dancers, gajah ulingGintangan bamboo craftsmen. According to Hadi, Banyuwangi is known as a creative center of art work, however, only one art piece has been patented, which is the Jejer Gandrung dance created by Sumitro Hadi. “Hundreds of others have no copyrights,” he said yesterday.
Hadi explained that much of Banyuwangi’s work of art have been recognized both nationally and internationally. Traditional Banyuwangi songs (Using music) for instance, are popular and enjoyed by people outside of Banyuwangi.
Gintangan crafts are also sought by tourists. Unfortunately, since they are not patented, tourists know Gintangan crafts as Balinese products.
