Nearly 300 Killed in Transport Accidents

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Indonesia police force reported on Friday 295 have been killed so far during the holiday season.
Inspector General Abubakar Nataprawira said the figure were accumulated since September 25th to October 2nd. According to police record 361 people suffered serious injuries and 631 suffered minor injuries. Police said there were 27.148 traffic violations, 65 per cent of which were done by motorist using motorcycles and the remaining 35 per cent by those using cars.
Police noted that while more congested traffics were found in Northern Coast Road, majority of the accidents happened in the Southern Coast Road.
Last year the number of death caused by traffic accidents during the Idul Fitri Holiday season was at 798, 829 people suffered serious injuries and 1,614 suffered minor injuries.
Material losses so far this year were estimated at Rp 241 million while last year losses were recorded at Rp3,28 billion.
