Thursday, 18 September, 2008 | 18:49 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Bank Indonesia has postponed the printing of Rp 2.000 banknotes and delayed plans to transform Rp 1.000 banknotes to coins, which was previously scheduled for implementation beginning of this year due to technical problems in the production process, such as acquiring the supply of paper and necessary equipment.
“It is not easy to get this kind of paper,” Bank Indonesia deputy governor, Budi Rohadi said yesterday. The Central Bank had planned to print the money on July 2008 but had to wait until the end of the year.
Bank Indonesia was scheduled to print 1.2 billion of Rp 2.000 bills, 1.4 billion new coins.
