TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Chief of the Indonesian Police General Sutanto has guaranteed the security of Ahmadiyah members.
“We will protect those who are suspects, as well as those are not suspects,” he said during an honor event for Sultan Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, at the Indonesian military headquarters in Cilangkap, on Wednesday (23/4).
The government is currently drafting a joint decision letter to stop Ahmadiyah activities.
The letter will be signed by Attorney General Hendarman Supandji, Religious Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni, and Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto.
Sutanto confirmed that everyone would receive the same security service. “Everyone,” he said.
Last week, representatives of the Ahmadiah Islamic sect made reports to the Criminal Investigation Division at Indonesian Police headquarters after attacks in several places in West Java.
They met with the Presidential Advisory Council to ask that the President protect them.
“We hope and beg the President to protect us as Indonesian citizens, in line with our faith,” said JH Lamardy, a member of the Ahmadiyah advocacy team, yesterday.
