TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Sri Nuryanti, a member of the General Elections Commission (KPU) for demography data updating, has that said KPU and the Home Affairs Department are synchronizing the latest demographic data.
“KPU will continue updating to make data it as valid as possible,” she said after a demographic data synchronization meeting, attended by representatives from the Home Affairs Department from the regional autonomy, demography administration and general government divisions, at the KPU office, on Monday (21/4).
The meeting concluded that the total number of people in Indonesia amounts to 225,324,780 people in 33 provinces with 471 districts/cities, and 6,093 sub districts.
“This data will change, depending on the demographic dynamic including the number of births and deaths,” said Sri Nuryanti.
KPU is working together with the Directorate General of Demography Administration for subdistrict and regional data, but there is still missing data.
“KPU will continue working with home affairs department to complete the data,” she said.
Sri Nuryanti went on to say that the incomplete data was due to regional regulations and regent instructions that are not included in home affairs ministerial regulations.
“This is why our data is not yet comprehensive,” she said.
In addition, data from new regions can also still be confusing.
The demographic data announced today is different with the data on April 5 submitted by the Directorate General for Demography Administration at the Home Affairs Department to KPU.
It was said then that Indonesia had a total population of 223 million people.
“This means that data changes all the time. KPU should keep updating it,” said Sri Nuryanti.
Kausar Ali Saleh, the Director General for Public Governance, said that the Home Affairs Department was ready to help KPU in updating demographic data.
“We are ready to help KPU if it is needed,” he said.
