Amrozi’s Execution Place Prepared

TEMPO Interactive, Semarang: The Central Java Regional Police has determined the location for the execution of three death penalty convicts of the Bali Bombing I case: Amrozi, Ali Gufron and Imam Samudra.

According to the Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Police, Adj. Chief Comm. Syahrono, the location is in the Nusakambangan area. “The execution location is there. We’ve prepared everything to perform the execution,” Syahroni told Tempo in Semarang yesterday (31/1).

Syahroni said that the consideration and determination regarding Nusakambangan to be the execution location were in anticipation of a request from the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). “But now we’re still waiting,” he said. What is clear, said Syahroni, is everything has been prepared, both the location and the personnel.

There is a possibility that the AGO will execute the three death penalty convicts Amrozi, Ali Ghufron and Imam Samudra after February 2. This will be achieved if they do not propose a last legal effort, clemency from the president where the deadline is February 2.

However, the Muslim Defenders Team (TPM) was not certain that the AGO will carry out the death penalty as there are still unfinished legal problems.. AGO is regarded as not having the right to prioritize the execution for Ali Ghufron-Amrozi brothers, also Imam Samudra.

“There are still about 100 death penalty convicts waiting for execution , but they haven’t been carried out yet. Why prioritize Amrozi and fellow convicts?” said Achmad Michdan, one of the TPM member who is Amrozi’s and his fellow convicts’ lawyer.

Attorney General Hendarman Supandji stated he was still awaiting the judicial review result. “We’re awaiting the judicial review that has been proposed, whether it is accepted or rejected,” said Hendarman after an inspection in Denpasar District Court.
