MTI: Open Audit Reporting of Accidents
Thursday, 01 March, 2007 | 16:53 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) has asked the government to open the audit reports of transportation accidents so as to restore transportation users' sense of security.
“At least, what has been done and the interim reports (should be reported)” said Head of MTI Bambang Sukartono when contacted in Jakarta yesterday (02/28).
According to him, this openness could show the general public that the government is doing its duty.
Another step would be tightening the operations of modes of transportation.
“This was recommended by the MTI congress in Surabaya two days ago,” he said.
The recommendation, he went on, was a short-term solution.
In addition, long-term solutions were difficult to prepare because the root of transportation problems is yet to be found.
Long-term solutions were also hampered by economic obstacles as radical reform of the transportation sector will disturb the economic wheel.
Deputy Head of Transportation Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR) Marwan Jafar has evaluated that the current transportation condition was extremely critical.
That was the reason why the President must take over the coordination of transportation system soon.
