Poso Residents to be Re-Registered
Wednesday, 28 February, 2007 | 16:13 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: In order to prevent provocateurs from entering the area, the regional government and Poso Police re-register Poso residents.

“We will collect data and arrange it again,” Piet Inkiriwang, Poso Regent, told reporters after presenting a situation progress report regarding his regency to Vice President Jusuf Kalla yesterday (27/2).

According to Piet, 15 teams have already been set up to verify residents from house to house in every sub-district.

Re-registration, he said, is carried out because there are some residents who have more than one identity card or who are not listed on Family Cards (KKs).

The teams, he said, will also make records of people who are going to enter Poso without exact destinations or accommodation details.

People with unclear status, he said, will be forwarded to the police.

Piet said that the follow-up would depend on the police.

“If they have come here to create provocation, then they will be sent home,” he said.

According to Piet, the security situation in Poso has begun to recover since the police captured several terrorist fugitives.

The regional government is also rebuilding houses that were ruined due to conflicts.

So far, the Poso regional government and TNI have rebuilt 1,009 houses and it is planned that a further 1,000 house will also be rebuilt.
