TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: This week, the government will complete the Political Draft Bill package that will be presented to the House of Representatives (DPR) this coming April.
“The draft as well as the academic studies will be discussed together with the related departments,” said Sudarsono, Director General of National and Political Unity at the Department of Home Affairs in the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, yesterday (02/27).
According to Sudarsono, today the finalization of articles in the draft will be discussed together with the Department of Justice and Human Rights, the Department for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and State Secretary.
The package consists of the Laws on Political Parties, Structures and Positions, General Elections and Presidential Elections.
He cited the revisions to the Law on Political Parties that will be completed by the end of the year.
The new draft will only attach additional provisions that will include potential areas of disagreement and conflict regarding political parties.
However, Sudarsono was reluctant to explain these in detail.
Syamsudin Harris, a member of the government's study team from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, said that the government had revised the provisions for parties regarding the requirements for nominating of presidential and vice presidential candidates.
“The requirements will be improved,” he said.
Syamsudin acknowledged that a party has to obtain a vote of more than 25 percent although the government wanted 15 percent.
The provisions, he said, will be finalized.
