AGO to Summon Former President Suharto
Thursday, 22 February, 2007 | 16:21 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) will summon former President Suharto.
This summons will be carried out before the AGO presents a civil lawsuit against the New Order ruler.
“If there’s no response, the suit will be filed directly,” Attorney General Abdul Rahman Saleh told reporters at the AGO building, Jakarta, yesterday (21/2).
Abdul Rahman explained that the summons is a procedure that must be performed before AGO files a civil lawsuit in the courts.
This procedure, he said, is covered in the Civil Code.
Abdul Rahman said that the AGO would deliver the summons within this week.
After it has been delivered, AGO gives Suharto a week to respond to the summons.
If there is not any response, said Abdul Rahman, by the end of the month the AGO will directly file the civil lawsuit to the courts.
Since last year, the AGO has been preparing its civil lawsuit against Suharto.
The lawsuit is addressed against seven foundations: Supersemar, Dana Sejahtera Mandiri, Trikora, Dana Abadi Karya Bakti, Amal Bhakti Muslim Pancasila and Dana Gotong Royong Kemanusiaan.
