Draft Law on Ministries Does Not Restrict President's Authority

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The House of Representatives has evaluated that the recruitment control mechanism of ministerial members does not restrict the President's prerogative rights.
The President still has the freedom to choose who he wants to serve as ministers.
“Anyone can be elected, but it must in line with the provisions,” said Saifullah Ma'sum, a member of the special committee for the draft bill on State Ministries, today (02/22).
The discussed draft will arrange the setting up, merging and disbandment of state ministries, as well as the conditions for its officials.
These arrangements are aimed at preventing the President from being arbitrary in setting up and disbanding a state ministry without clear responsibility.
However, said Saifullah, a President still has the right to choose his/her ministers.
It is planned that the government, represented by State Secretary Yusril Ihza Mahendra, will submit a list of problems.
