Indonesia – Vietnam Continental Shelf

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The House of Representatives (DPR) plenary session has approved the draft bill for the Setting Up of a Continental Shelf between Indonesia and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Joko Subroto, the DPR Commission for Foreign Affairs spokesperson, stated that that Indonesia will benefit from the setting up of this boundary.
The setting-up of the continental shelf will provide Indonesia with legal certainty and make it easier to uphold the country’s sovereignty rights.
Efforts regarding the setting-up of the continental shelf continued between1978 and 2003.
In the end, an agreement was reached in Hanoi on June 26, 2003, and this was signed by foreign affairs ministers of both countries.
