TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Jakarta Provincial Government has promised fund of Rp1 billion per sub district for post-flood rehabilitation.
The total amount of funds being prepared is Rp267 billion.
“The relief funds can be used for fixing houses,” said Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso in Jakarta yesterday (11/2).
He forbade sub districts that were not hit by the disaster from using the funds.
Ritola Tasmaya, the Jakarta Regional Secretary, has not yet confirmed when the funds will be available.
He only said, “Soon,” and went on to say that the funds were from outside of the public facility rehabilitation fund.
Ritola said the funds were taken from the Sub District Public Empowerment Program for social, economic and physical building needs.
The funds come under general expenditures in the 2007 Regional Budget.
However, what is different is that the funds will be disbursed directly to the Sub District Council.
Previously, the funds were retained by the government and are according to sub districts’ requests.
The Sub District Council will manage the funds according to post-flood needs that are proposed from lower levels.
“For example for repairing houses, and buying clothes or staple needs,” said Ritola.
As regards monitoring, the Jakarta Government will pass this over to the general public and the Sub District Council.
Although the funds have not yet been disbursed, the post-flood rehabilitation process has been going on in Jakarta, including the cleaning-up of rubbish and mud in many places.
Ritola said the Cleanliness Service has assigned 1,956 officers and 736 trucks for rubbish pick-up.
“We’re also being helped by the Fire Department and Public Works services,”
