TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Bill Farmer, the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, has announced that the Australian government will provide aid amounting to A$150,000 (more than Rp1 billion) for flood victims following the flood disaster in Jakarta and the surrounding areas, yesterday (5/2).
In a meeting with Indonesian government officials last weekend, the Australian ambassador conveyed his condolences to the Indonesian government and people for the victims of this natural disaster.
“The Australian aid will be made very soon via the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and will be in the form of 5,000 food packages and 5,000 hygiene packages to be distributed in areas inundated by the disaster,” said Farmer.
The hygiene packages contain a bucket, bath soap, laundry soap, a tooth brush and a plastic towel bag.
At the Indonesian government's request, the aid will be focused on Tangerang and South Jakarta where it is most needed.
A joint evaluation team from Australia and the PMI was deployed to South Jakarta yesterday (3/2) to evaluate the needs of the people affected by the floods.
The Australian government, via its foreign aid agency AusAID, will continue monitoring the situation in flooded areas.
