TEMPO Interactive, Poso: Yesterday (29/1), the Kelapa Dua Mobil Brigade Unit found a number of automatic firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition as well as assembled bombs in Tanah Runtuh area and Jalan Irian, Gebang Rejo, Poso City.
Two people, who are suspected of being involved in the rioting in that area last Monday, gave themselves up.
The police’s coming to Tanah Runtuh yesterday was actually to continue the operation of searching for fugitives from the rioting last Monday, which ended with 14 people dead.
However, while searching for fugitives, the police instead discovered an MK-3 automatic rifle and one pistol.
Two assembled weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were also found.
“This evidence is now at the Poso Police Station,” said Central Sulawesi Regional Police spokesperson, M. Kilat, yesterday.
Yuyun, an inhabitant whose house was suspected to be the storing place of ammunition and bombs, surrendered to the National Police (Polri) HQ Anti-terror Special Detachment.
“He was asked to surrender by his family,” said Kilat.
Together with Yuyun, Akung, who was suspected to have killed an Islamic teacher, also surrendered.
On Sunday, the police found 1,218 rounds of ammunition and a bomb casing on Jalan Irian, Gebang Rejo.
It is suspected that the explosive materials belong to an armed group which was involved in the armed contact with the police on January 22.
According to Kilat, they also found some Indonesian Military (TNI) and police uniform trousers.
