UNESCO Verifying Three Historical Sites in Bali
Monday, 29 January, 2007 | 13:01 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Denpasar: UNESCO is verifying three historical sites in Bali to be declared as world heritage sites.

These three sites include the Tukad Pakerisan riverbank (Gianyar), the 'subak' irrigation area at Jatiluwih (Tabanan) and the Ayun Park Temple at Mengwi (Badung).

Last week, the UNESCO team visited the three sites and concluded that the three sites must be equipped with maps and location details.

In addition, it is expected that there will be political commitment as well as the support of the respective local governments for the world heritage status.

The reason for this is that the status will seriously influence future policies regarding layouts and land management at the locations.

According to the Head of Special Team of World Cultural Heritage of Bali Province, Professor Parimartha, the three sites were only being nominated.

UNESCO will only decide on their status in 2008.
The three sites all possess philosophical, historical and artistic features.
