DPR Urges Cancellation of MoU with Microsoft

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Information Commission at the House of Representatives (DPR) has urged that the government review the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Microsoft.
Theo L. Sambuaga, a member of the DPR Information Commission, has agreed with the government's wish for government offices to have legal software.
However, he said that the DPR was expecting that the MoU would be in line with the principles of transparency and anti-monopoly.
A.S.Hikam, another member of the DPR Information Commission, has also queried the government for trying to legalize software with a way that could be considered illegal.
“If they push for legal software in an illegal manner, there could be a great deal of misunderstanding instead,” he said during a hearing with Information and Communication Minister Sofyan Djalil yesterday (01/24) in Jakarta.
However, Minister Sofyan stated that the MoU did not have any binding legal power.
“There will be no legal consequences if the MoU fails. There will be only moral consequences,” he said.
Should the legalization funds for this not be disbursed, Sofyan went on, then the MoU would fail.
