TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The DKI Jakarta government will relocate fowls to four areas in Jakarta. The prepared land includes Cibubur, Cakung, Rawa Kepiting (Industrial Center of Pulogadung), and Sukapura (Semper, North Jakarta).
Regional Secretary Ritola Tasmaya said that Rawa Kepiting, Cakung and Sukapura will be turned into fowl shelters and an abattoir. In addition, Cibubur area will be build a bird market.
“Land of Cibubur and Rawa Kepiting are under the ownership of Jakarta's government,” Ritola told Tempo at his office yesterday (01/22). According to him, his party has asked that Regional Development Planning Agency to prepare the budget.
“I am expecting that this year the relocation areas can be used soon,” he said. According to him, the relocation was made to eradicate the spread of bird flu which killed four victims in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.
Based on Tempo's observation at Rawa Kepiting, the area was still uninhabited and barren. There were no trees.
The empty three-hectare piece of land was surrounded by a concrete wall. In addition, some factories or warehouses were situated around 10 meters off the land. The road used to access the location was badly damaged so that cars could not pass through it, but motorcycles could get by.
Ritola said that the location was ideal since it was located in the middle of a city forest. “Should there be traders or breeders who refuse to be relocated, we will explain that this is concerned with life and death,” said Ritola.
