Suciwati to Help Team of Pollycarpus Case

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Suciwati, the human rights activist Munir's widow, stated that she will aid the attorney general's team to prepare the judicial review proposal of the Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto's case. “We will give some opinions to the team,” said Suciwati when Tempo contacted her last night. Suciwati was optimistic that by forming of the team, the case of Munir's death will be solved. “Despite the fact that so far, investigators have been working slowly.”

Pollycarpus had once been sentenced 14 years in prison for being involved in Munir's killing. The verdict of the Supreme Court stated that Pollycarpus was not Munir's murderer. The Supreme Court judges declared that Pollycarpus—arrested in March 2005—had only committed an administrative fault: falsifying documents. He was sentenced to two years in prison. After obtaining a remission, Pollycarpus stepped out of prison on December 25 last year.

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) and police have planned to propose a judicial review. Police stated that they will take the records of Pollycarpus telephone calls with several people to America to be investigated.

Suciwati said that by Monday (01/22) she will meet Abdul Hakim Ritonga, head of the judicial review team of Pollycarpus. It is planned that the meeting will discuss anything that the AGO has obtained and how long the team will work.

The AGO has also set up a team for preparing the judicial review proposal on Pollycarpus. According to a spokesperson of the AGO Salman Maryadi, the team was established by Deputy Attorney General for General Criminal Actions. “The team was formed to prepare, study, and examine the verdict that the Supreme Court made that freed Pollycarpus,” said Salman at his office yesterday (01/18).

Salman could not explain the evidence that will be the grounds for proposing the judicial review. “We will see the materials for the judicial review when they are checked in the court,' he said.
