TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Indonesian government is certain that the Philippines can secure the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Cebu on January 12-15. “The government isn't concerned or doubtful at all over the Philippine's capability in terms of security during the summit,” said Presidential spokesperson Dino Patti Djalal, yesterday (11/1).
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, said Dino, received the report on the situation and security in Cebu and regarded the summit location in good condition. He said the President decided to go to the Philippines in spite of the terror threat warning during the summit. One of the warnings was conveyed by the Australian government.
At 6pm local time yesterday, there was a bomb explosion at a market in General Santos City which killed five people. In response to the terror threat, the Philippine government deployed 13,000 soldiers and police officers to secure the ASEAN Summit.
