Tripartite Institution for Discussing Social Security Law

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Workers interests are not yet accommodated although the amount of trade unions continues to grow.
This is because communication between workers, the government and entrepreneurs has not yet been going well.
Therefore, an official institution that can bridge the interests of all three parties needs to be formed.
“Currently, there is a lack of synergy between these three elements and one party always seems to lose out,” said Iskandar, Director of Institutional and Socialization Affairs at the Manpower and Transmigration Department, yesterday (10/1).
According to Iskandar, now there are a total of 88 trade unions throughout Indonesia.
With such a large number, it is not easy for the government to accommodate all trade unions' interests.
However, out of this number, only 12 trade unions have so far passed verification and have the right to become tripartite members.
The remainder were not able to meet the requirements determined by the government via Minister Decision No. 201/2000.
“In the meantime, their aspirations must also be represented,” said Iskandar.
One of the efforts to overcome this situation is the setting up of a Tripartite Cooperation Institution.
Here, federation and non-federation trade union representatives can sit together with representatives from the government and entrepreneurs to discuss the plan to revise the Worker's Social Security Law.
“The output will be recommendations, suggestions and opinions related to manpower and industrial relation policies,” said Iskandar.
This institution will have a balance membership of the tripartite elements.
