TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: On Wednesday last week (3/1). the Republic of Indonesia Police (Polri) formed a working group for analyzing this institution's functions and roles in terms of national security.
This team will design the police's functions and duties in terms of national security and the result will be input for the police in composing the National Security Draft Bill.
“The working group will analyze Polri's status and position in the state institution system,” said Brig. Gen. Syafriadi, a member of the Police’s Chief Expert Staff, at Polri HQ, Jakarta, on Friday (5/1).
The team, which was formed by Polri Chief Gen. Sutanto, is chaired by Polri Chief Expert Stafff Coordinator Insp. Gen. Winarto , with Syafriadi acting as secretary.
Polri Deputy Chief Comm. Gen. Makbul Padmanagara is the team's patron.
Forming this team is a continuation of the difference of opinion between the Defense Department and the police in composing the National Security Bill.
The Defense Department, the committee coordinator, is composes the draft with the police placed under the department.
However, the police have rejected this as it assumes that the Department will not involve the police in composing the law.
We have never been invited,” said Syafriadi. “We don't expect the Defense Department to prepare it quietly then say that it has been approved by Polri.”
According to Syafriadi, the team will make a draft as input and guidance for the national security regulation composition.
The police hope that the regulation will contain national security goals and the players involved.
