House's Performance in 2006 Feeble
Friday, 22 December, 2006 | 17:26 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The performance of the House of Representatives (DPR) throughout 2006 is still far from expectations if measured from what it has done.
According to the Press and Development Study Agency Director, Hanif Suranto, from the result of his agency's study for the last six months, the level of DPR's quorum was only 60 percent.
“This influences the target of national legislation,” he said during a discussion in Jakarta yesterday (21/12).
However, according to a member of the DPR Performance Team, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, the number of laws passed by the DPR in 2006 is much better as compared to previous years.
In 2006, the DPR managed to pass 34 bills, while in 2005, it was only 14. However, Lukman acknowledged the monitoring function was still weak.
