President Fails to Supervise Environment
Friday, 22 December, 2006 | 16:00 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: It was assessed that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has been unsuccessful in looking after matters on the environment. The increasing environmental damage within two years of Yudhoyono's government proved this. “If he was appraised as successful, environmental damage should be less,” said a member of Defense Commission at the House of Representatives Sutradara Ginting yesterday (12/21) in Jakarta.
The worst damage was caused by the Lapindo mudflow at Sidoarjo, East Java. In addition, the forest fire cases have risen. “So far, environment improvement has only become the government's discourse,” he said.
