Ade Daud Nasution: Civilian Weapons Withdrawal Policy Unrealistic
Thursday, 21 December, 2006 | 17:25 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The policy for withdrawing weapons from civilians is considered to be unrealistic.
The reason for this is because people will not comply as they have spent millions of Rupiah to obtain a weapon.
“To make it effective, losses of weapon owners must be compensated,” said Ade Daud Nasution, Secretary of the Reform Star Party Faction, when contacted on Thursday (12/21).
Ade said he considered that police's policy was not comprehensive, for it neglected the losses of the weapons’ owners and the police's ability to protect citizens.
He acknowledged possessing a weapon with no bullets, saying “I bought it from a person who owns it and arranges permit for Rp40 million,” he said.
However, Ade said he considered that police's policy on weapons was proper, as “Currently, weapon violations and crimes are blooming,” he said.
He suggested that the police propose an additional budget so as to be able compensate owners' losses.
